Motherhood Time Flies: Why You Should Soak Up Every Moment

If you’re pregnant or a new mom, chances are you’ve already heard it: “Enjoy every second—time flies.”
And if you’re like me, you probably smiled, nodded, and thought, yeah, yeah, I’ll remember. But here’s the thing—those words are truer than I could have ever imagined.
When my son was born, those first 3–6 months were a blur. Sleepless nights, endless bottles, diaper changes—it was survival mode. Honestly, I didn’t stop and “soak it all in” the way everyone told me to. And now, looking back, I realize just how quickly those early days passed.

Today, I see how much he’s grown, how much he’s learned, and it absolutely blows me away. One moment you’re holding a newborn, and the next, they’re laughing, crawling, and saying their first words. It’s fascinating, beautiful, and a little bittersweet all at once.
Tips for Cherishing the Baby Stage
I don’t know if there’s one perfect piece of advice for new moms, but here’s what I’ve learned:
1. Take all the photos and videos
It might feel silly in the moment, but trust me—you’ll never regret having too many. Technology is such a gift. Unlike our parents, who only had a camera (and sometimes VHS tapes that didn’t survive the heat storage), we have endless ways to document milestones.
2. Create a keepsake box
One of my favorite things I did was putting together a memory box. Inside are tiny treasures that mean the world:
His hospital bracelets
The first hat he wore at the hospital
A balloon we brought home to celebrate
Sweet cards and little mementos
Every item tells a piece of his story—and someday, I’ll get to share those with him.
3. Start a scrapbook or baby milestone book
I’m lucky enough to have a friend making me a one-year scrapbook, filled with photos and notes from his first year. You can also find baby books where you jot down milestones, favorite moments, and even funny little quirks that you might otherwise forget.

4. Be present
This is easier said than done, but when you can—pause, breathe, and just watch your baby. The way their tiny fingers curl around yours, the way they smile in their sleep, even the soft sound of their breathing… these are the details that stay with you forever.
Final Thoughts: Soak Up Every Moment
Motherhood is fast, messy, overwhelming, and oh-so-beautiful. If I could go back, I’d tell myself to stop worrying about doing everything “right” and just enjoy the little things more.
So to every mama and mama-to-be: Take the picture, every day, or a small video. Save the bracelet. Hold them a little longer. Because time really does fly—and these memories are worth holding onto.
With love, from one salty mama to another. 💙 #StaySaltyMama
